Biological Dentistry

While traditional dentistry focuses only on the areas above the neck, biological dentistry looks at the patient as a whole system and how the mouth relates to the rest of the body. Holistic dentists, like Dr. Jones, believe that the general health of the mouth is not separate from the general health of the person.

By seeking out and working to understand and treat the root cause of illness, we help you achieve health stability and wellness and reduce your need for treatment throughout life. The principles of biological dentistry can be applied to every phase of your treatment plan.

Healing after dental surgery: How PRF can help

At our office, we use a technique known as PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) Therapy to improve the quality and speed of healing following dental surgery.  The best thing about this process is that it is completely natural and only uses cells from your own body to promote healing!  A fibrin membrane is created by centrifuging a small amount of the patient’s blood prior to the procedure.  This membrane is concentrated with different growth factors and cells that will allow the body to more quickly and effectively repair both soft (gums) and hard (bone) tissues.  This process is essential for predictable healing following extractions, implant placement, as well as sinus and gum surgeries.

Ozone Therapy

What is Ozone?acimdlogo2

  • Ozone is three atoms oxygen joined together (O3) as opposed to the regular oxygen that we breathe, which is two oxygen atoms joined together (O2)
  • Ozone is created in our office by a special machine which converts pure medical grade oxygen into ozone.  Once created it can be used in liquid (ozonated water) or gas form.
  • Ozone carries a negative charge and acts by neutralizing positive charges, which are typically carried by viruses, bacteria, and other free radicals.  Our healthy body cells have the anti-oxidative properties necessary to avoid harm from ozone.  Bad cells, bacteria, viruses, etc do not have the ability to deter the ozone and will be destroyed on contact.

How can we use Ozone to promote dental health?

  • Tooth Decay – Ozone destroys the bacteria that cause tooth decay.  When administered onto a cavity in gas form, ozone has the ability to travel into the microscopic tubules that a tooth is comprised of. This ensures the tooth is free of active decay before a filling is placed.
  • Periodontal Disease – Ozonated gas and water can be used in conjunction in periodontal therapy.  They can be employed underneath the gums in efforts to kill the bacteria causing gum inflammation and bone loss seen in patients suffering from periodontal disease.
  • Oral surgery – Ozonated gas and water are used during our surgical procedures to aid in the resolution of any infection present in a surgical site.
  • Root Canals – Ozone effectively kills the bacteria located throughout a tooth in need of root canal therapy.  Since it is a gas, it can flow through the tiny tubules a tooth is made up of, sterilizing a tooth more effectively than traditional liquids can.
  • TMJ/TMD Therapy – Prolozone therapy (prolo therapy with ozone added) can be used to assist with pain elimination and healing of a painful jaw joint. Prolozone therapy involves an injection into the painful joint which will often cause a reduction in symptoms and allow the body to attempt repair of chronically damaged tissues.
