So when we’re looking at the two different types of dentistry between Cosmetic & Restorative, Cosmetic is typically gonna be more focused on elective things that are changing the appearance of your teeth, typically your smile. So we talk about things like Whitening, a non-invasive way to make your teeth brighter & whiter. We talk about things like Bonding or Veneers, something that goes over the teeth and the smile that can change the look of their straightness, their length, their position, their color; you can really recreate a complete smile by adding something over it. Restorative dentistry is more typically focused on repairing something that has a problem. So a tooth that has a cavity that needs a filling, a tooth that’s broken or worn that needs to have something put over it like a crown. That’s typically what we think of when we say Restorative dentistry. Restorative dentistry, with the way we use it to repair larger cases though, can actually still be cosmetic. So when we’re doing a Full Mouth Rehabilitation, not only can we repair what’s broken & worn and recreate the youthful appearance of a healthy smile, we’re still doing Cosmetic Dentistry. So we can repair what is unhealthy or broken and still recreate something that you’ll be absolutely in love with when you look at it in the mirror.
Actual Patients Results
Jessica
Issue: She was unhappy with the length and color variations in her front teeth. An upper right molar was also missing.
Solution:Â Some minor gum contouring was completed, 8 veneers were placed to create a broader smile with perfect symmetry and color, and an all zirconia implant and crown were used to restore the upper right molar.
Cory
Issue: He wanted to completely revitalize his smile. Particular focus was placed on the darker color, the vertical lines on the front teeth, and the low gumline on one of the front teeth.
Solution:Â Gum recontouring on the upper right lateral incisor to raise the gum line to a more symmetrical position and ten veneers to restore proper length, proportions, and a brilliantly bright smile.
Bernie
Issue:Â Missing side front teeth, failing bridges, and significant gum recession on the front teeth and canines.
Solution: Pinhole gum rejuvenation was used on the upper jaw to reposition the gum tissue and cover the areas of gum recession. Two new three-tooth bridges were made, each connecting a canine to a front tooth.
Necole
Issue:Â Short side front teeth and a lack of consistent color and brightness of the smile.
Solution: Crown lengthening was performed to raise the gum level of the lateral incisors and create a more harmonious gum contour and establish ideal tooth length. Six veneers were then placed from canine to canine to create the smile appearance, color consistency, and whiteness that she wanted to see.
Sherry
Issue – Old composite veneers on her front two teeth were discolored, worn short, and lacking texture and polish. She also wanted the length and edges of her two side front teeth to be more symmetrical
Solution – As a less expensive alternative to porcelain veneers, we used injection molded composite resin veneers to transform the appearance of the front four teeth. A 3D printed mockup of the new design was made and a clear stent of that mockup was used in the mouth to mold a flowable composite filling material around the four teeth.
Tasha
Issue: Tetracycline (an antibiotic) when given to children can cause severe darkening and staining of the developing permanent teeth. Previously the only way to significantly alter the color of these teeth was to cover them with bonding, crowns, or veneers. The KoR whitening system is a non-invasive and safe alternative to dramatically whiten discolored teeth.
Solution: KoR at home whitening system was used for four weeks to prep for an in office visit using KoR Max whitening solution. The system is safe and the results are permanent.
Margee
Issue:Â Improperly angled front crowns, unnatural coloring of old crowns and bridge, asymmetrical tooth size, and visible areas of recession above old crowns.
Solution:Â New zirconia crowns and bridge to restore proper and natural appearance of the upper front teeth.
Macey
Issue: New cavities and staining around old bonding were creating a smile she wasn’t comfortable showing.
Solution:Â Six veneers provided the beautifully natural, bright, and color consistent smile she was desiring.
Elle
Issue – She was not happy with the smaller side front teeth, the discoloration from past bonding, and the mismatch of color between the front tooth crown and her other front teeth.
Solution – Eight veneers were used to transform this smile’s appearance by creating ideal tooth proportion, length, and color.
What is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry typically includes elective services with the goal of improving the appearance of your teeth or overall smile, whether that’s making simple adjustments to existing teeth colors or positions, gum line symmetry, or adding something over the existing teeth like veneers.
But cosmetic dentistry is about more than simply having a good-looking smile. Nashville Restorative Dentistry offers a complete array of cosmetic dentistry services designed to restore your health and confidence, allowing you to fully enjoy your life again. Which Services Does Cosmetic Dentistry Include?
There are a few approaches to cosmetic dentistry, and patients may incorporate two or more of these options to reclaim the smile they want to see in the mirror:
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a simple, safe and non-invasive way to freshen your smile. While there are a variety of do-it-yourself options available today, not all methods are equally effective. Patients are often disappointed in the speed and results of over-the-counter options. There are also complications depending on the type of stains or discoloration present. Put simply, some teeth whiten better than others.
Nashville Restorative Dentistry uses the Kor system to harness the power of oxygen to remove external stains and internal discoloration from your teeth to restore a naturally bright white smile.
Veneers
If you’re unhappy with misaligned teeth, unsightly gaps, annoying chips, or the shape and length of your teeth, veneers could be the perfect choice for you.
Because veneers are bonded to the front of your teeth, this is often one of the least invasive and most painless procedures available for improving your smile.
Nashville Restorative Dentistry is a trained and certified provider of DURAthin and Micro-thin veneers. These provide the ultimate option in veneer artistry while sparing the destruction to your teeth and enamel that traditional veneers require.
Orthodontics (Invisalign)
Create your best smile by repositioning, straightening or closing gaps between your teeth. We proudly offer Invisalign for adult cosmetic orthodontics, which is designed to align your teeth while being nearly invisible compared to traditional metal bracket and wire braces.
Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners worn over your teeth to gently move them into the desired position, changing the trays every 7-14 days to keep your teeth progressing in the right direction.
Gum Contouring
Gum lines are a feature most people don’t think about every day, but they can have a dramatic effect on the overall appearance of your smile. Sometimes even small changes to the gum line symmetry can make a huge improvement to your smile. When a tooth appears short in length compared to the teeth around it, gum contouring can be used to expose more of the tooth and restore symmetry to your smile.
There are two approaches to gum contouring: gingivectomy, which removes excess gum tissue and has a quick and predictable recovery time, and crown lengthening, which is performed when bone and gum levels need to be altered to achieve a lasting result.
