If your dream smile is still just a dream, it’s time to discover the transformative power of veneers. Veneers can make tooth flaws magically disappear and bring out the best in your smile. These FAQs from your Franklin, Tennessee dentists, Drs. Ryan Jones and Caleb Estes at Nashville Restorative Dentistry explain more about veneers and why they could be right for you.
Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made “shells” bonded to the surface of teeth to perfect their appearance. Veneers can cover tooth flaws that you find undesirable to dramatically improve your smile’s look. Veneers can make your teeth appear brighter, straighter, wider, and healthier, giving you an attractive and confident smile.
Veneers are versatile. They can correct multiple tooth flaws with one treatment. Through veneer treatment, we can correct:
By concealing flaws and defects in your teeth, veneers can take years off your smile to give you a more youthful appearance.
Getting veneers can take a couple of visits, depending on the case requirements. On your initial visit for veneers, we’ll evaluate your teeth and oral health to confirm that you’re a good candidate. Then, we will digitally design a mockup of what your new teeth will look like. Once that is completed, we’ll proceed by preparing your teeth for veneers. Sometimes, this involves shaving off a thin layer of enamel to accommodate the thickness the veneer requires. Sometimes, in a prepless veneer application, no alteration of the underlying teeth is needed at all. We’ll take impressions or a digital scan of your teeth when they are ready for veneers and send them to a ceramist at our dental lab to have veneers custom-designed for your case. When your veneers are back from the lab, we’ll schedule a final appointment to bond them to your teeth. A follow-up visit may be scheduled to ensure your veneers are functioning as they should and your bite feels comfortable.
Issue:Â Short side front teeth and a lack of consistent color and brightness of the smile.
Solution: Crown lengthening was performed to raise the gum level of the lateral incisors and create a more harmonious gum contour and establish ideal tooth length. Six veneers were then placed from canine to canine to create the smile appearance, color consistency, and whiteness that she wanted to see.
Quality porcelain ceramic veneers can last, on average, up to 15 years before needing to be replaced. But this is by no means an expiration date, and our goal is many years beyond that. You can help extend their lifespan by practicing good oral hygiene, scheduling routine dental cleanings, and avoiding eating inappropriate foods or using your veneers as tools to bite or tear things open.
No. You should take care of veneers the same way you take care of all your teeth—brush twice daily with a soft bristle brush, floss at least once daily, and keep up with routine dental cleanings. We also recommend eating a healthy diet and limiting sugary and acidic foods and drinks to protect your treated teeth from cavities.
