Laser therapy is one of the easiest and most painless ways of treating soft tissue diseases and ailments. In many cases laser therapy can be done in as little as 20 minutes.
About Our Laser Therapy
We pride ourselves in providing the safest, most up to date and most advanced procedures available to patients.
The laser we use is state of the art. It’s the first completely wireless laser, which allows us to maneuver the laser much more precisely. This means easier elimination of periodontal diseases, bacteria and other issues without risking injury of nearby tissue.
Our laser is very small and non-threatening. It’s less than 7 inches in length and just a little more than one inch in diameter. Unlike other dental offices that use large laser devices, patients don’t feel afraid or intimidated when they see our laser.
It’s small, it’s powerful and it’s precise, which allows us to perform intricate dental procedures quickly and effectively.
Treatment for Cold Sores and Ulcers
Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, which resides inside your face in a dormant state. When something causes an outbreak, the sore that you see is what you call a cold sore.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to completely remove the virus. That said, laser treatment can drastically reduce the visibility of cold sores or eliminate the outbreak completely.
It works by actually penetrating the virus itself in the cold sore. The light from the lasers will send the virus back from their outbreak state to a dormant state, significantly reducing symptoms.
Ulcers are quite similar to cold sores, but cover any kind of lesions in the mouth. Instead of penetrating the virus, the treatment for ulcers uses low level laser treatment (LLLT) to stimulate your body’s natural immune and healing systems. This causes the tissues in your mouth to heal faster.
All of these processes are quite painless. No anesthetics are required. You’ll feel a mild tingling or buzzing sensation, but no real pain.
Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is an extremely common ailment that plagues as much as 80% of the population.
Using our laser, we can remove much of the bacteria from your mouth, as well as remove any tissues that have been infected by the bacteria. We’re able to work around your teeth and really get in the nooks and crannies of your gums.
In addition to getting rid of the bacteria, we’ll also aim to identify and eliminate the root cause of your periodontal issues.
The whole procedure is relatively fast. There may be some mild discomfort during the procedure, but it comes more from having your mouth open. The laser itself causes very little noticeable pain.
If you’re interested in coming in for a periodontal laser treatment, please call ahead. There may be preparation necessary before your treatment. For example, if you have an infection, we’ll need to take precautions to make sure the infection doesn’t spread to your gums during the vulnerable cleaning process.
