What Denture options does Nashville Restorative Dentistry provide?

Issue – All of the back teeth were already missing and the remaining front teeth were not stable due to bone loss, recession, and mobility.
Solution – The remaining teeth were removed and a set of healing dentures was made to be used for several months while the gums and bone healed. After the tissues completely healed, these premium-life like dentures were made – restoring a beautiful, natural smile.
We understand tooth loss rarely happens predictably. Our denture options provide a solution for every situation. Regain your smile and boost your confidence with these denture options:
- Partials: These removable partial dentures (RPDs) replace one to many missing teeth and use the neighboring teeth or dental implants as anchors. RPDs can be made on top of a rigid and strong metal framework or a metal free flexible framework. For those wanting increased stability and/or to eliminate the visible hooks or clasps around remaining teeth, dental implants can be used to securely hold a partial denture in place.
- Complete dentures: Full dentures are ideal for patients with all of their teeth missing in one jaw or both. A complete denture rests on your gums and visibility replaces all of your missing teeth while restoring your functional ability and appearance. Full dentures can be either immediate or conventional. Immediate dentures are inserted and visibly replace your teeth the same day your teeth are extracted. These restorations ensure you don’t live without teeth even as you are healing from tooth removal surgery. Traditional dentures are made after you have fully healed from tooth removal and your gums are comfortable and stable again.
- Implant Supported Overdentures – Complete dentures that are stabilized by two to four implants in a jaw. You can still remove this type of denture to clean your gums, implants, and the denture itself. When it is placed into the mouth and snapped onto the implant connection, you can speak and eat with complete confidence that your denture will remain stable. This option is more affordable than fixed hybrid implant dentures which are not removable.
- Implant Retained Hybrid dentures – Milled zirconia hybrid dentures are securely placed onto 4 to 6 implants (All on X implants) per jaw and are not removable by the patient. This provides the ultimate option in denture technology in terms of lifelike appearance and complete stability.
Adding an adhesive inside your denture can be one way of keeping traditional dentures more securely in place. However, you can add even more confidence and stability to your dentures with implants. With as few as two to four implants per jaw, dentures stabilized by implants can offer a major functional upgrade. This allows you to talk, eat, and smile with zero worry about embarrassing denture movement.
What can I expect from my denture treatment?
Expect a highly personalized experience from your denture process, tailored to meet your unique needs and preferences. Your transformational journey begins with an in-depth consultation, where we discuss your dental history, current oral health, and treatment needs and goals. We also take the time to understand your concerns and expectations.
Next, we’ll take digital photos and scans of your mouth to begin to create restorations made-to-measure. We aim to develop dentures uniquely tailored to your smile, not someone else’s. We’ll consider what makes you unique—your lips, gum color, facial features, teeth color, size, and shape—to create dentures that naturally blend into your appearance.
Patients seeking enhanced stability can choose implant-supported or implant-retained dentures. A minimum of 2-4 implants in a jaw can be enough to stabilize an implant-supported denture and still allow you to remove it to clean your gums, implants, and the denture. A minimum of 4-6 implants per jaw are necessary to design implant-retained (hybrid) dentures which are not removable outside of your dental office.
How should I maintain my dentures?
Patients should not sleep with their removable dentures in place. Removing your dentures at night helps prevent gum irritation and infections. Instead, the dentures should be soaked overnight in a water/vinegar mixture or cleaning solution. The denture itself should be brushed with a soft brush and mild soap. It is very important to avoid hard bristles and abrasive toothpastes on dentures as this can create roughness which gives bacteria and plaque places to adhere to. It is also important to avoid any bleaching agents, as this can alter the color pigments used in the artistic design of your denture.
Nonremovable (hybrid) dentures are maintained like natural teeth. Brush them at least twice daily. You will also greatly benefit by using a water flosser to remove unwanted plaque and debris from hard to reach areas.
Denture wearers must visit their dentist regularly for check-ups. Most removable dentures require relining to maintain a stable fit against the gums and replacement of the teeth after they wear down enough to compromise function and bite. Our premium dentures are created to last many years with optimal care and maintenance.

FAQs
What are the various types of dentures?
Dentures come in several types. Full dentures are a great option when restoring an entire jaw of teeth or both arches. Partial dentures are a great choice to fill in gaps when some natural teeth remain. Dr. Jones and Dr. Estes will help determine your best type based on your needs. Conventional dentures are removable and not attached to anything. Implant-supported dentures offer added stability but are still removable by the patient. Implant-retained hybrid dentures are not removable outside of the dental office and offer the ultimate stability and lifelike replacement of natural teeth. We will guide you through your options to ensure the best solution for restoring both function and appearance.
How long does it take to get dentures?
In general, receiving new dentures will take several weeks to a few months, depending on several factors. The process involves multiple steps, including a consultation, digital scans, impressions, and try-in appointments to ensure the esthetics are approved. Dr. Jones and Dr. Estes will combine both digital and analog technologies to ensure your dentures fit comfortably and function properly. After our lab partners create the dentures, we will schedule a delivery appointment and any needed follow-up visits to ensure a comfortable fit and to make any necessary adjustments. While the process may take some time, obtaining a well-fitting, natural-looking denture is worthwhile.
Will my new dentures impact how I speak?
When first wearing dentures, you may notice a slight change in how you speak, especially if you’ve never worn a removable appliance before or if your denture tooth positions are modified significantly from where your natural teeth were when they were removed. Dr. Jones and Dr. Estes will ensure your dentures fit snugly, which should help with speech. You may need some time to adjust to speaking with dentures. In most cases, patients with dentures will adapt within a few weeks. Practicing speaking and reading aloud can help speed up the adjustment period and improve your comfort and confidence.
How do I care for my dentures?
Proper care is essential to maintain your dentures and ensure they last. Nashville Restorative Dentistry recommends that you clean your dentures every day with a soft brush and a gentle, non-abrasive cleaner. You should remove them at night to give your gums a rest and soak them in a 1:1 white vinegar / water mixture or a denture cleaner solution. Regular checkup visits are still important to check for tissue health, denture wear and tear and to perform any adjustments that may be needed to maintain a comfortable fit.
Are dentures comfortable to wear?
Dentures are designed to be comfortable, and there may be an adjustment period when you first start wearing them. Dr. Jones and Dr. Estes take great care in crafting dentures that fit securely and look natural. While some initial discomfort is normal, any pain or irritation should subside after your mouth adjusts. If discomfort persists, we will provide adjustment appointments to ensure your dentures provide maximum comfort and functionality, allowing you to eat and speak confidently.
How long should my new dentures last before requiring replacement?
Your new dentures should last five to ten years, or more, when cared for properly. Over time, two main things will happen: the denture teeth will wear down, and the denture’s fit will become less secure as your gum tissue and bone levels change over time. This can create the need to replace the teeth in the denture or to reline the inside of the denture to recreate a secure fit. As time passes, eventually, they may need to be replaced. During routine examinations, Dr. Jones and Dr. Estes will assess the condition of your dentures and oral tissue and propose any necessary adjustments or replacements. Proper maintenance, including daily cleaning and regular check-ups, will help extend the life of your dentures and keep them functioning optimally.
